              JESUS – GOD’S SPECIAL SON,
         OUR KING & SAVIOUR

SCENE 1: Mary sits outside her home with her son James. Close by in the Carpenters Shop, Joseph and Jesus are working.

NARRATOR: “A long time ago in a town called Nazareth, a young boy named Jesus was helping his father in his carpenter shop.  His mother sat outside her home listening to the happy sounds of the sawing of the wood and the banging of the nails.

She looked over at her son and smiled as she remembered the day the angel came and told her that she was to have a baby.

SCENE 2:  The lights go down on Mary, and come up on Mary in her home, with the angel Gabriel.

GABRIEL: “Greetings favoured woman. The Lord is with you.  Mary, you have nothing to fear, for God has a surprise for you.  You will become pregnant and give birth to a son and will call his name Jesus.   He will be given the throne of your ancestor David and he will reign over Israel forever.”

MARY (in shock): “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.”

GABRIEL: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, the power of God will overshadow you. This child you bring forth will be called the SON OF GOD.   Have you not heard that your cousin Elizabeth is having a baby in her old age?  For nothing is impossible with God.

MARY: “Yes I see it now.  I am the Lord’s servant. Let it be just as you say.”

SCENE : The lights go down on Mary and the angel, and come up on Mary sitting with James. She picks up her younger child at her feet, and places him on her nap – speaking to him.

MARY: “Ah yes, I believed what the angel said James, but I was a little nervous. You see, I was no queen, and your brother Jesus was not born in a palace.

                  ................................................................................................................

SCENE 3: The lights go down on Mary, and come up on the manger scene.

MARY: “Yes, Jesus was born in a stable, and I had wrapped him a blanket and laid him in manger, because there had been no room for him anywhere else. No room for a KING.  No room for GOD’S SON.”

SCENE: The lights come back up on Mary and Jesus in the carpenter's shop. She looks over at Jesus in the carpenters shop.

MARY: “But it is what happened next, and the words I heard that I still ponder on.

SCENE: The lights go down on Mary and come back up on the manger scene, this time with the shepherds.

SHEPHERD 1: “We were in the fields guarding our sheep, when we were surrounded by angels and what looked like the radiance of God’s glory.”

SHEPHERD 2: “They told us not to be afraid, and that they had good news that would bring joy to all people.”

SHEPHERD 3: “The SAVIOUR – yes the MESSIAH – the LORD, had been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David.”

SHEPHERD 1: “They told us we would find a baby wrapped in a blanket, lying in a manger.”

SHEPHERD 2: “The angels started singing praises to God, and they were joined by many more angels. It was a glorious sight.”

SHEPHERD 3: “As soon as they returned to Heaven, we left to come and see your baby – and he is a more glorious sight.  It is just as the angel has told us.

SHEPHERDS 1,2,3: “We give thanks and glorify OUR SAVIOUR.

SCENE: The lights go down on the Manger scene and come back up on Mary

MARY: “Our SAVIOUR – they said my young son is our Saviour – our Messiah?”

     .............................................................................................................................................

MARY: Eight days after his birth, Joseph and I took him to the temple, and met two wonderful people, who did reaffirm all that the angel and the shepherds had said.

SCENE 4: The lights go down on Mary 1, and come up on the Temple, where Simeon and Anna are there with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus.

SIMEON: “Lord God, you can now release your servant to die in peace. With my own eyes I have seen your salvation. He is a light to reveal God to all the nations, and is the glory of your people Israel.
I bless this child and I bless you, his parents.  He will cause many in Israel to fall, but will bring joy to many others.  He has been sent from God, but many will oppose Him, but this opposition will lead to SALVATION.  Mary, this opposition  will bring sadness to your soul, but think about the joy that will follow.”

ANNA: “Praise the Lord.  This child has brought salvation to Jerusalem.”

SCENE 5 : The lights go down from the Temple, and come up to Mary 1.
Jesus comes out of the carpenter’s shop and comes over to his mother.

JESUS: “Mum, Dad says I have done enough work for today, and I did my study this morning, so can I go play with my friends now.”

MARY: “Yes dear, and take James along with you.  Oh don’t be late home, we have a busy day tomorrow.”

JESUS: “Okay.  Come on James.”

MARY (standing and heading toward the carpenter shop to speak to Joseph): “Well, Joseph, our son Jesus is GOD’S SON, He is the KING of the Jews, and he is our SAVIOUR and MESSIAH  –  but today he is also, our little boy.  Come, finish your work, we need to get ready for our trip to Jerusalem tomorrow.”
