TOOLS TO HELP YOU STUDY

Rushing a Bible Study is not the way to go.  It is important to have time set aside, which you specifically chose for study, which is not the same as a quiet time when you are praying and reading a devotion. This doesn't mean it has to be your only time for study.

Personally, I have set aside Saturday mornings. My husband works night shift so he is in bed sleeping. I usually have no other plans for the day so I am not in `let's just get this done' mode. Also, for some reason Friday nights I seem extra tired, so I usually go to bed earlier, and wake nice and refreshed Saturday morning.

During my quiet times, throughout the rest of the week, I often come across something that excites me, and I will jot this down in my notebook. I have also got into the habit of taking my IPAD and notebooks to every specialist appointment at the hospital, so I can again jot down observations.  On Saturday, I will then get out my `tools', looking a little deeper perhaps, and then begin to correlate my discoveries.

Rick Warren recommends some simple tools:

1. A Study Bible (NIV (New International Version)  is a good one).
2. Two other recent versions.  I like my NLT (New Living Translation), and am also now using `The Message'.
3. An exhaustive concordance.  I have found my Bible has been pretty good one.
4. A Bible dictionary , handbook and commentary.  I "googled" and found one I like, which I now have downloaded on my IPAD.   Remember though, commentaries are written by men, so you need to find one that is solidly Bible based, and don't let anybody rob you of the joy of finding those biblical insights on your own.

I have found my IPAD is very useful, but I still have some books and Bibles all over the kitchen table. I still like writing my notes in my book, but will then correlate them on the IPAD and after lots of proof reading will transfer them to my BLOG.

Whatever way you love to study, or tools you like to use, this is the `way to go'. Most importantly though, if you find something that really excites you, don't forget to share it.

"You are the light that gives light to the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. And people don't hide their light under a bowl. They put it on a lampstand so that the light shines for all other people in the house. In the same way, you should be a light to other people."
Matthew 5:14-16
