THE BIBLE - A LIGHT FOR MY PATH.
For the next few weeks, while I am in Sydney for the Hillsong Colour Conference and to spend some time with my son and his lovely wife, I will be spending my down time getting stuck into the WORD. I will be focusing my BLOGS on "Rick Warren's Bible Study Methods", with some of my own inspiration which comes from 51 years of listening to the Bible being read to me, and reading it myself.
In my book `In the Palm of His Hand', I tell this little story - one of many my Dad told us as kids, as we sat on and around his knee each night. Dad loved the Bible and he brought it to life by telling other stories, and introducing us to its wonders.
"A little boy and his father were entering an old mining cave. The little boy was excited as he put on his miner's hat - just like his Dad's. He held his Dad's hand tightly. As they walked, he let go of his father's hand and ran ahead. Suddenly there was a crash, and the walls of the cave started falling down around him. The light on his hat went out and he was in darkness.
He called to his father, "Dad, I can't see you." His dad called out, "Son, just listen to my voice."
He walked a little bit over the rubble, but he was still scared. "Dad, I still can't see you."
His father answered: "Just follow the light on my hat."
Suddenly, he looked and saw the light ahead. Imagine how wonderful that little boy felt, as he followed the light and fell into the arms of his father."
The light, my Dad told me was like the Bible. If we read it everyday and followed it's words, we too would fall into the arms of the Father.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path." Psalm 119:105
LIGHT AHEAD
Read the Bible everyday, that's what my Dad would say.
For He knew what was inside the Book, he knew it would light the way.
Read the Bible every morning, before you leave for school,
There may be times during the day, a verse you may need to recall.
Read the Bible as you rest, from a hard days work or test.
Thank the Lord for what you've learnt, and for helping you do your best.
Read the Bible before you sleep and you'll find you'll wake renewed
Ready to start another day as the Lord lights your way with His Word.
Read the Bible everyday, that's what my Dad would say
For He knew what was inside this Book, He knew it would light my way.
