My Eternal Legacy - Part 2

"What a wonderful inheritance! I know the Lord is always with me...... You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasure of living with you forever."
 Psalm 16:8&11

What kind of legacy do I want to leave to my children and grandchildren - one with wealth, knowledge or FAITH?

It definitely won't be one of wealth. No matter how hard we work and try to save money, we never seem to get ahead. I believe one reason for this is that we are not very good givers. Oh we have always given our time in service, but I don't think our pastors and their families live off what we put in the offering plate each week. No there won't be a great financial legacy left behind when we go, but I would hope there will be a legacy of SERVICE.

Knowledge and Wisdom?  Well I can't say I am the most intelligent of people.  At the end of the day my husband and I will not win any Nobel Prizes for intelligence, but if you have read any of my earlier books you will have discovered with me that although wisdom and knowledge often go hand in hand, they are not the same.

At the moment I feel that wisdom seems to have left me too, having made some mistakes over the last few years, due to possibly misreading the Lord's will.  Still, I believe that true wisdom is found in the Word of God, and I will continue to seek it everyday.  No, there won't be any great fame for wisdom and knowledge when I go, but I would hope there will be a legacy of a LOVE FOR GOD'S WORD.

Will I leave my children and grandchildren a legacy of faith? This morning I was reading one of my favourite Psalms - 37.  TRUST IN THE LORD - no problem with that.  TAKE DELIGHT IN THE LORD - there is no one I love more.  COMMIT EVERYTHING I DO TO THE LORD - you bet! I've learnt my lesson there. BE STILL IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LORD and HAVE PATIENCE - this is one I probably have the most difficulty with. I seem to have this great need to try and fix things myself.

I am learning that sometimes I need to go through trials, where I am not in control,  to remind me I have to SIT STILL AND WAIT ON THE LORD. You see that's really what faith is all about. Will I leave my children and grandchildren a legacy of failure? I hope not, for I want them to see that in all situations God can give us the `glory of success', though not always the way we plan. So I hope I can leave them a legacy of FAITH AND PATIENCE.

No real wealth, but lots of SERVICE, some WISDOM as they continue to follow God's Word and a great load of FAITH. This is the ETERNAL LEGACY I hope to leave my children and grandchildren.
